The Bible Society has just bought leading Christian bookseller Koorong Books from the founding/owners, the Bootes Family.
It’s a significant extension to the Bible Society’s already significant reach (Eternity Magazine, Centre for Public Christianity etc). But it comes at what seems a strange time to be buying a bookshop, when the book selling industry is in such flux.
Plus the DNA’s of the organisations are so profoundly different.
The Bible Society, has been about publishing, distributing the Bible at affordable costs and advocating its credibility and trustworthiness in contemporary cultural life.
While Koorong, as the country’s leading Christian retailer, has Bibles prominent on it’s shelves. Alongside the Bible their current number one best seller is Carolin Leaf’s, 'Switch on your Brain,’ about which the publisher says,
'She [Caroline Leaf] shares with readers the "switch" in our brains that enables us to live happier, healthier, more enjoyable lives where we achieve our goals, maintain our weight, and even become more intelligent. She shows us how to choose life, get our minds under control, and reap the benefits of a detoxed thought life.'
I caught up with Bible Society CEO Greg Clarke on 2CH to ask him what will stay the same at Koorong and what will change?
